Why I don't like Praying

Being born into a Hindu family, I was taught to pray from my childhood. But, even as a child, I used to wonder why we bow down before statues. We are taught at school and by our parents and elders, that God is omnipresent. If He is present everywhere, then why do we go to specific places and pray.
Religion teaches us that God exists in every being. We offer prayer in some man-made structures and don't care about the person starving in the cold outside it. If what religion teaches us is true, then shouldn't prayer be helping a starving man or giving shelter to a child shivering in the cold. We waste our money in giving offerings in a temple. But,  has anyone wondered where do all those sweets and milk offered to a statue go.

The fact is that most of them are wasted or thrown away, while there are hundreds of people staving outside.

I'm not against religion, neither am I an atheist. But, these facts really disturbs me and makes me wonder whether we are really praying to the almighty.
Every religious scripture mitigates benevolence towards every being in this world. Then why is there so much hate around us? From riots to murder, taking place all around us.
Not just women and children falling prey to abuse, but even men. Why do we forget that men feel pain too? They are not some all powerful being who can't be hurt. On the other hand, I have seen men taking an active part in a religious event or mitigating non-violence and then going back home and abusing their wives and children.

Our religion teaches us to promote peace and harmony, love our neighbours, help the needy. But, are we really doing that? According to Science "homo sapiens" are higher beings, then why do we stoop to the level of animals. Even animals are better than us!

All these facts make me wonder; are we praying in the right way. Its time we start changing our way, and be human in the real sense; because If not now, then when.

  1. It dsnt matter to be religious or not. We just need to be spiritual to love ourselves and to love others.
